The epidemiology of atrial fibrillation in Chinese postmenopausal women and its association with age of menopause
As the most common arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation (AF) remains one of the major disease leading to stroke, heart failure and mortality in the world. [1] Although the prevalence of AF is lower in female than male [2], female with AF are more likely to develop stroke and death than male [3,4]. The risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in postmenopausal women increases markedly, especially after the cessation of ovarian function [5]. Therefore, it is imperative to better understand the prevalence trends and management status of AF in postmenopausal women and develop effective prevention strategies to improve the prognosis of AF in the focal population.
