Barrett ’s Esophagus: Current Management and New Approaches

Barrett ’s esophagus stands as the primary indicator for an increased risk of esophageal adenocarcinoma. Endoscopic eradication of Barrett’s esophagus with dysplasia has been clearly demonstrated in randomized controlled trials and multiple additional studies to markedly decrease the risk of developing adenocarcinoma of the esophagus. A paradigm shift in clinical practice and national and international guidelines has taken place with strong recommendations for endoscopic eradication therapy for early neoplasia in Barrett’s esophagus, replacing esophagectomy in most patients.
