Astrocytic Activation to Restore Goal-Directed Behaviors

When we are first learning how to drive a car, every action we perform is carefully planned and executed. We might have to remind ourselves “I’m approaching a stop sign, so I need to release my foot from the gas and gently push the brake,” or “I’m merging into the next lane, so I need to make sure I look in my blind spot.” As we repeatedly perform these actions and gain experience navigating our automobile across different s ituations and environments, these behaviors become automatic. For better or worse, we no longer have to consciously remind ourselves to remove our foot from the gas or check our blind spot.
