21.1 neurobiology of cannabidiol: putative mechanisms and distinct and interactive effects with Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (thc)

Cannabidiol (CBD), a major chemical compound present in the Cannabis sativa plant, has received significant scientific and popular media focus over the past decade related to its potential promise as a treatment for mental health conditions. Deregulation and legalization have led to CBD products being widely marketed as health supplements and increasingly used by Americans of all ages to self-treat their mental health conditions. These changes have made for a highly challenging practice environment where both patients with mental health problems and providers are confused.
