59.2 “a failure here that topples all our success”: the crisis of family homelessness in the united states

Youth and family homelessness persists as a crisis. In Los Angeles, there are 19,000 youth experiencing homelessness within the Los Angeles Unified School District. Although families experiencing homelessness are often resilient, they can endure significant trauma navigating homelessness and are at risk of mental health problems, substance use disorders, Child Protective Services involvement, and academic challenges. Child and adolescent psychiatrists and child mental health clinicians are increasingly needed to join forces with policymakers, schools, legal agencies, and community groups to tackle youth and family homelessness.
