Individuals with intellectual disability (intellectual developmental disorder) have sexuality too

Issues with sexuality and problem sexual behavior in individuals with intellectual development disorder (IDD) often present in clinical practice. Sexual desire in individuals with IDD does not differ from that of their neurotypical counterparts, yet most special education programs do not include a sex ed component. Individuals with IDD have concrete thinking that can lead to misunderstanding of the many colloquial terms used around sex. Parents often present to the office worried about a variety of issues as their child develops.
