62.2 sex education groups: an effective way of teaching patients with intellectual developmental disorders

Teaching patients with intellectual or developmental disability (IDD) about sex and sexuality can be difficult for both clinicians and caregivers. Use of visual supports and simplified language that is anatomically correct helps ensure patients with IDD to have an improved understanding. Additionally, modeling and helping caregivers practice how to talk with their child about sex and sexuality will provide an ongoing ability for caregivers to help their child through adolescence and into adulthood.
