Follow 6 hours ago 6h ago Once you have been allocated to a geographical area (foundation school), then you will be asked to rank programmes in order of preference. There will be set combinations of programmes for you to choose from. You do 3x 4 month rotations in FY1 and 3x 4 month rotations in FY2 - so six jobs in total. Most foundation schools will give you your full 2 year programme from the outset, but certainly until recently there were some schools that would only initially allocate FY1 jobs and then would rank candidates again for FY2 jobs (in my local area this would be done based on various aspects of FY1 portfolio such as audits). So you'll have a list of set programme combinations eg F1 St Somewhere's Hospital gen med, paeds, vascular surgery and FY2 Elsewhere Infirmary cardiology, emergency medicine, orthopaedics.
