From the outbreak of 2019 novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in December 2019 to Mar 27, 2020, and the number of confirmed patients and deaths outside of China is increasing rapidly all around the world.1 The autopsy of a patient who died from severe infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) showed evident desquamation of pneumocytes, hyaline membrane formation and pulmonary edema, suggesting acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS).2 Xun et al. reported that all of 25 patients with COVID-19 died of SARS-CoV-2 infection complicated by respiratory failure, suggesting that lung is the main target organ, followed by multiple organ dysfunction, including heart, kidney and liver.
