Roux-en-y gastric bypass after lung transplantation: case report and literature review

Obesity and gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) are independent risk factors for transplant failure after lung transplantation [1-3], In general, organ transplantation requires potent antirejection drugs which often result in significant weight gain that alters lung function due to decreased compliance and increased resistance of the respiratory system [1,2]. GERD has been labelled as a risk factor for chronic rejection bronchiolitis obliterans syndrome (BOS) after lung transplantation, which, combined with severe obesity, increases the risk of transplant failure.
