Request for Application: Saving Lives at Birth: A Grand Challenge for Development (Round IV) Closing Date: Thursday, March 27, 2014 USAID, the Government of Norway, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Grand Challenges Canada, and DFID invite applications to respond to Saving Lives at Birth: A Grand Challenge for Development (Round IV). DUE DATE: Applications shall be received no sooner than January 30, 2014 and no later than Thursday, March 27, 2014 at 2:00 pm EST via www.savinglivesatbirth.net/apply. Applicants should retain a copy of their application and accompanying enclosures for their records, as well as the acknowledgement of their submission to the online application intake platform. Seed grants (valued generally at $250,000 USD each) and transition grants (valued up to $2 million USD each) will be awarded in this fourth round of funding. The Challenge USAID, the Government of Norway, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Grand Challenges Canada, and DFID have joined together to launch Saving Lives at Birth: A Grand Challenge for Development, to find the tools and approaches to help the mothers and newborns during their most vulnerable hours. We seek groundbreaking prevention and treatment approaches for pregnant women and newborns in poor, hard-to-reach communities around the time of delivery. This is the period when the majority of maternal and newborn deaths occur and the population that has been the most difficult to reach. ...
