Nationwide Analysis of Emergency Department Visits for Pulmonary Embolism in Cancer Patients
Cancer patients are at increased risk of thrombotic complications and pulmonary embolism (PE) constitutes the second leading cause of death in this population. We performed a retrospective study of ED visits with PE, using the Nationwide Emergency Department Sample (NEDS) Database for the year 2016. We sought to compare rates of hospitalizations from ED, as well, as inpatient outcomes including mortality between cancer and non-cancer patients with pulmonary embolism.
