Jun Hashimoto Foot/ankle problems remain important issues in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Although forefoot deformity generally takes a major place in surgical treatment, concomitant mid-hindfoot deformity is also commonly seen. In this situation, it can be easy to overlook that mid-hindfoot deformity can also induce or exacerbate clinical problems behind the forefoot events. Thus, the relationship between mid-hindfoot deformity/destruction and physical activity/ADL was investigated. Radiographic findings of 101 lower limbs (59 patients) were retrospectively evaluated. Alignment parameters in the lower extremi...

Objective To study the sensitivity and specificity of MRI and bone SPECT-CT in detecting the pain generator in ankle and foot pain with diagnostic dilemma. Methods Retrospectively data of patients with ankle or foot pain who underwent both MRI and Bone SPECT-CT were analyzed. The lesions and probable pain generator sites were reported as per MRI and bone SPECT-CT findings. These lesions were correlated clinically, managed accordingly and followed up. The patients who had significant improvement in response to the treatment provided were considered to have been diagnosed accurately. The foot and ankle disability ...

CONCLUSIONS: Findings provide novel insight into the experience of being mother of a child with DA, highlighting regional healthcare disparities, the need for upskilling of healthcare professionals, and for increased public awareness. Further research is needed to better understand the impact of DA on fathers and siblings. Findings can contribute to development and provision of supports to children with DA and their families.Implications for RehabilitationHealthcare professionals need to be upskilled in the treatment of, and communication with, children with Down syndrome with chronic illnesses and their families.A special...

We describe a case of septic arthritis caused by Staphylococcus pseudintermedius, a common colonizer of dogs that has emerged as a rare human pathogen. Our patient presented with ankle pain and swelling and was treated adequately with cefazolin/cephalexin and arthrotomy. S. pseudintermedius is often misidentified as other coagulase-positive staphylococcal species and has high rates of methicillin and nonpenicillin antibiotic resistance.

Intern Med. 2021 Sep 18. doi: 10.2169/internalmedicine.8031-21. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTIntestinal mucosal injury that develops as a complication of tocilizumab (TCZ) is usually associated with diverticulosis. We herein report a rare case of TCZ-induced intestinal mucosal injury in the absence of diverticulosis. A 74-year-old woman suffering from rheumatoid arthritis started taking TCZ. Six months later, she complained of hematochezia and abdominal pain. Colonoscopy revealed multiple ulcers spreading from the cecum to the transverse colon but no diverticulosis. These lesions were cured at three months after the disco...

Evid Based Complement Alternat Med. 2021 Sep 7;2021:5523870. doi: 10.1155/2021/5523870. eCollection 2021.ABSTRACTAccording to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Aconiti Radix Cocta (AC) is clinically employed to expel wind, remove dampness, and relieve pain. We evaluated the antirheumatoid arthritis (RA) activities and underlying mechanisms of AC. The chemical constituents of AC were analyzed by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) using three reference compounds (benzoylaconitine, benzoylmesaconine, and benzoylhypacoitine). The anti-RA effects of AC were evaluated in adjuvant-induced arthritis (AIA) rats by hind...
