Reperfusion strategies in stroke due to isolated cervical internal carotid artery occlusion: systematic review and treatment comparison
ConclusionsOur systematic review highlights that, in acute ischemic stroke associated with isolated cervical ICA occlusion, bridging (IVT + EVT) might lead to higher rate of functional independence at follow-up, without increasing mortality. The low quality of available studies prevents from drawing firm conclusions, and randomized-controlled clinical trials are critically needed to define optimal treatment in this AIS subgroup.
CONCLUSION: Among various risk scores, the TAG and SEDAN scores best predict SICH after EVT. Higher glucose level and unsuccessful recanalization, which are included in the TAG and SEDAN scores, are independent risk factors of SICH in the present cohort, highlighting their detrimental effects.PMID:34556379 | DOI:10.1016/j.jfma.2021.09.005
Discussion: Biochemical interactions between the gut microbiome and inflammation, resulting in metabolic derangements, can affect stroke progression and outcomes. Clinical evidence supports the importance of TMAO in modulating underlying stroke risk factors. Lack of standardization and distinct differences in sample sizes among studies are major limitations.
Conclusions: This study demonstrated that elevated NLR was significantly associated with poor prognosis of stroke patients. High NLR is associated with a 1.1- to 1.3-fold increased risk of poor outcomes of AIS/AHS patients. NLR could be helpful as a potential prognostic biomarker to guide clinical decision making.Systematic Review Registration:https://www.crd.york.ac.uk/prospero/display_record.php?ID=CRD42020186544.
Conclusion: Of the 5 biomarkers, there was enough evidence that MMP-9 has higher diagnostic accuracy for predicting the risk of HT before thrombolysis. MMP-9, ferritin, and NLR also predicted poor short-term outcomes.Cerebrovasc Dis
CONCLUSION: Higher neutrophil counts, low WBC counts, low lymphocyte counts, and low platelet to lymphoycyte ratio were baseline serology biomarkers that were associated with post-EVT hemorrhage. Our findings, particularly the association of diabetes mellitus and high neutrophil, support experimental data on the role of thromboinflammation in hemorrhagic transformation of large vessel occlusions.PMID:34548113 | DOI:10.1017/cjn.2021.197
The objective of the study was to investigate the associations of changes in SUA with stroke and its subtypes (ischemic and hemorrhagic stroke).
This study recruited 72 acute ischemic stroke patients treated with endovascular treatment, forty of whom developed intracerebral hemorrhage (ICH). According to the results of receiver operating characteristic curve and multivariate logistic regression analysis, the authors have found that hyperdensity areas (HDA) volumes, alberta stroke program early CT score (ASPECTS), National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) score and some other parameters may be related to and be able to predict ICH after endovascular treatment.
Background: The data on the relationship between statin use and clinical outcomes after intravenous thrombolysis (IVT) for acute ischemic stroke (AIS) are in controversy. Objective: This systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the safety and efficacy of statins administered prior to onset and during hospitalization in patients with AIS treated with IVT.Methods: We searched PubMed, EMBASE, and the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials from inception until June 8, 2021. Comparative studies investigating statin effect on intracranial hemorrhage (ICH), functional outcomes, and mortality in adults with AIS...
Background: Dl-3-n-Butylphthalide (NBP) has the potential to improve clinical outcomes in acute ischemic stroke patients by improving collateral circulation. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of NBP in patients with non-disabling minor ischemic stroke and transient ischemic attack (TIA).Methods: The BRIDGE (the observation study on clinical effectiveness of NBP on patients with non-disabling ischemic cerebrovascular disease) is a prospective registry to monitor the efficacy and safety of NBP therapy in acute non-disabling ischemic stroke or high-risk TIA. Non-disabling minor ischemic stroke patients within 48 h ...
AbstractSevere acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) sparked a global pandemic that continues to affect various facets of human existence. Many sources reported virus-induced acute cerebrovascular disorders. Systematically, this paper reviews the case studies of COVID-19-related acute cerebrovascular diseases such as ischaemic stroke, intracerebral hemorrhage, and cerebral sinus thrombosis. We also spoke about how SARS-CoV-2 can infect the brain and trigger the aforementioned disorders. We stated that SARS-CoV-2 neuroinvasion and BBB dysfunction could cause the observed disorders; however, further research ...
