LncRNA-MALAT1 is a promising biomarker for prognostic evaluation of tongue squamous cell carcinoma

ConclusionsThe expression level of MALAT1 is closely related with progression of tongue SCC. Furthermore, MALAT1 can serve as an independent biomarker for prognostic evaluation of tongue SCC.

Authors: Peng C, Cohen DJ Abstract INTRODUCTION: Esophageal squamous cancer remains an important cause of mortality worldwide with two new immunotherapy drugs recently approved for metastatic disease. AREAS COVERED: The authors review the epidemiology and genomics of esophageal squamous cell carcinoma. They also examine prior trials involving targeted agents under investigation as well immunotherapies that have been approved and novel combinations. EXPERT OPINION: Great advances have been made in characterizing the molecular changes in esophageal carcinoma. However, relatively few drugs have shown benefit i...

A nodule with a diameter of 19 mm was found in the right lung and diagnosed as lung squamous cell carcinoma. Anti-cancer treatments were not performed because of the presence of advanced interstitial pneumonia and chronic respiratory failure. Cyclosporine A was tapered to avoid suppression of anti-tumor immunity, ...

This study focused on the expression of mitochondrial serine hydroxymethyltransferase (SHMT2) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) and its correlation with clinical traits and the prognosis of OSCC patients. Immunochemical staining and Western blotting were used to quantify the expression of SHMT2 and related immune markers in OSCC. Using OSCC microarrays and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) database, we evaluated the association between SHMT2 and various clinical traits. We found that increased expression of SHMT2 was detected in OSCC and correlated with advanced pathological grade and recurrence of OSCC. By a multivariat...

We describe an unusual telangiectatic variant of squamous cell carcinoma in a 53 yr old woman. The tumor showed the usual morphologic features of a poorly differentiated keratinizing squamous cell carcinoma with>75% tumor area showing cavernous hemangioma like ectatic spaces filled with blood. The blood-filled spaces lacked an endothelial lining as evidenced by negativity for CD31 and CD34. This unusual variant has not been reported previously. Awareness of this entity is necessary for avoiding confusion with vascular tumors such as hemangiomas and angiosarcoma.
