This study was designed to examine the effect of TEAS for pain relief in women undergoing transvaginal ultrasound-guided oocyte aspiration. This single-blinded, multicenter, randomized controlled trial was performed in China between May 2013 and May 2015. The subjects were randomized to mock TEAS and TEAS. TEAS or mock TEAS was administered 30 min before oocyte retrieval until the end of the operation. The primary and secondary endpoints were the pain measured using the visual analog scale (VAS) within 1 min and 1 hour after oocyte retrieval, respectively. Serum β-endorphin levels were tested in the firs...

CONCLUSION: while the evidence from the studies evaluating the use of massage therapy or the use of progressive muscle relaxation and guided imaging for the management of cancer pain in these patients demonstrated significant benefits, the other two studies that evaluated the use of acupuncture as a complementary therapy showed contradictory results, therefore, needing more research studies to elucidate such findings. Conclusion: EA can regulate the P2X3 receptor protein and mRNA expression levels in the colon and related DRG of IBS rats with visceral pain and then regulate the excitatory properties of DRG neurons. PMID: 33014041 [PubMed]
ConclusionsThese results suggest that MVA effectively increased pain tolerance and reduced pain intensity when compared with all groups, although not significant to the VA group.

ConclusionOur results may emphasize paying attention to unforeseeable risks of anaphylaxis after bee-venom acupuncture. This study could be essential reference data for the guidelines of appropriate use of bee-venom acupuncture and bee-venom-derived interventions in clinical applications.
(University of Illinois at Chicago) Researchers at the University of Illinois Chicago will lead a $7.1 million, five-year national study to determine the effectiveness of acupuncture and guided relaxation for people with chronic pain from sickle cell disease. The National Institutes of Health grant is part of its Helping to End Addiction Long-term Initiative. The initiative aims to improve prevention and treatment strategies for opioid misuse and addiction and to enhance pain management.
Veterans who have acupuncture before surgery reported less need for opioids for pain, a randomized, controlled study, presented Monday at the ANESTHESIOLOGY 2020 meeting shows.
