Oncotarget: Characterization of porcine hepatocellular carcinoma for liver cancer

(Impact Journals LLC) Volume 11, Issue 28 of Oncotarget features " Development and comprehensive characterization of porcine hepatocellular carcinoma for translational liver cancer investigation " by Gaba et, al. which reported that reliable development of Oncopig HCC cell lines was demonstrated through hepatocyte isolation and Cre recombinase exposure across 15 Oncopigs.

Authors: Singh G, Yoshida EM, Rathi S, Marquez V, Kim P, Erb SR, Salh BS Abstract Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is the third leading cause of cancer-related deaths worldwide. If diagnosed early, curative treatment options such as surgical resection, loco-regional therapies, and liver transplantation are available to patients, increasing their chances of survival and improving their quality of life. Unfortunately, most patients are diagnosed with late stage HCC where only palliative treatment is available. Therefore, biomarkers which could detect HCC early with a high degree of sensitivity and specificity, may play...

ConclusionAnti-PD-1 immunotherapy might alter the nutritional and metabolic status in advanced HCC patients. We also should pay attention to the nutritional and metabolic status of patients when drug resistance is detected.

Rationale: Prostate-specific membrane antigen positron emission tomography-computed tomography (18F-PSMA-1007 PET/CT) imaging is an emerging method for the diagnosis of prostate cancer (PC), but its efficiency in detecting other accompanying diseases has rarely been investigated. Patient concerns: A 77-year-old man presented with a complaint of bone pain throughout his entire body lasting for 2 weeks. Routine preoperative whole-body bone scanning revealed multiple osteogenic metastases. His alpha-fetoprotein and prostate-specific antigen levels were 108.2 ng/mL and 53.32 ng/mL, respectively. 18F-PSMA-1007 PET/...

In this study, we investigated the ability of teriflunomide to act as an antineoplastic drug by examining the effects of teriflunomide treatment on HCC cells. Teriflunomide strongly inhibited the proliferation of HCC cells, induced cell apoptosis and induced cell accumulation in S phases of the cell cycle. LncRNA and mRNA expression profiles of HCC cells treated with teriflunomide compared with controls were performed by using microarray analysis. For comparison, the differentially expressed mRNAs were annotated by using gene ontology (GO) and pathway analyses. The microarray revealed that 2085 lncRNAs and 1561 mRNAs diffe...

Abstract Chemical investigation of the lichen Usnea ceratina Arch led to the isolation of five depsidones, including one new compound ceratinalone (1) along with four known compounds bailesidone (2), stictic acid (3), 8'-O-methylstictic acid (4) and 8'-O-ethylstictic acid (5). The structures were determined by analysis of their MS and NMR data as well as by comparison with literature values. Compounds 1 and 4 were evaluated the cytotoxic activity against HeLa (human epithelial carcinoma), NCI-H460 (human lung cancer), HepG2 (liver hepatocellular carcinoma), and MCF-7 (human breast cancer) cell lines, showing the m...
