ConclusionsCollectively, all the above findings revealed that miR-377-3p exerted anti-OS functions viaCUL1 and EMT and Wnt/β-catenin pathways. These results may contribute to the development of clinical OS treatment.

We report the case of a 13-year-old girl who developed chronic polymicrobial biofilm infection of a pelvic bone allograft after Ewing’s sarcoma resection surgery. Chronic infection by Clostridium hathewayi, Proteus mirabilis and Finegoldia magna was worsened by methicillin-susceptible Staphylococcus aureus exhibiting an inducible Macrolides-Lincosamides-Streptogramin B resistance phenotype (iMLSB). After failure of conventional conservative treatment, combination of in situ anti-S. aureus PT with surgical debridement and intravenous antibiotic therapy led to marked clinical and microbiological improvement, yet failed...

Arch Pathol Lab Med. 2021 Sep 21. doi: 10.5858/arpa.2021-0255-SA. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTCONTEXT: Coagulation factor and endothelial injury marker, von Willebrand factor antigen (vWF:Ag), is elevated in coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).OBJECTIVE: To assess prognostic value of vWF:Ag for COVID-19 inpatients.DESIGN: Citrated plasma samples collected from COVID-19 inpatients for D-dimer measurement were tested for vWF:Ag. Measurements of vWF:Ag and common acute phase reactants (APRs) were correlated with clinical outcomes and length of stay (LOS).RESULTS: We included 333 samples from a diverse group of 120 COVID-19 ...

J Biosci. 2021;46:88.ABSTRACTContemporary demand calls for a high restorative index as an indispensable requirement for bone tissue engineering scaffolds, where therapeutic agents of natural origin function as a modulator for new bone formation become of utmost importance. The study presents a systematic investigation of the edible stem part of Cissus quadrangularis (CQ) as a natural resource of bioactive metabolites capable of invoking early biomineralization and osteogenesis in vitro. Phytochemical screening of CQ stem extracts (sequential solvent extraction: polarity hexane

J Cell Mol Med. 2021 Sep 21. doi: 10.1111/jcmm.16894. Online ahead of print.ABSTRACTOsteosarcoma (OS) is a type of malignant primary bone cancer, which is highly aggressive and occurs more commonly in children and adolescents. Thus, novel potential drugs and therapeutic methods are urgently needed. In the present study, we aimed to elucidate the effects and mechanism of melatonin on OS cells to provide a potential treatment strategy for OS. The cell survival rate, cell viability, proliferation, migration, invasion and metastasis were examined by trypan blue assay, MTT, colony formation, wound healing, transwell invasion an...

We present three cases of calcaneus resection for Ewing sarcoma in children and its reconstruction managed by induced-membrane technique. To our knowledge, this technique has never been published for hindfoot's tumor management. Three children (aged from 9 to 14 years) had partial or total resection of calcaneus initially replaced by a cement spacer. The second step consisted of removing the cement and filling the membrane cavity with autograft taken from the ispilateral iliac crest, potentially combined with bone substitute.

Tumor‑type‑dependent effects on the angiogenic abilities of endothelial cells in an in vitro rat cell model. Oncol Rep. 2019 May 02;: Authors: Al-Abboodi M, An R, Weber M, Schmid R, Klausing A, Horch RE, Boos AM, Kengelbach-Weigand A Abstract Adequate vascularization is pivotal for tumor progression and metastasis. Tumor angiogenesis is based on a sequence of interactions between the tumor and surrounding cells and the extracellular matrix. It is widely known that a tumor can influence and control its surroundings to create favorable conditions for further growth. To investigate the influence of va...

CONCLUSION: This work demonstrated that vWF, as a downstream effector of miR-24, played an important role in controlling OS cell progression. Targeting miR-24 or vWF therefore promises to be an effective biological target for OS treatment. PMID: 30279208 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Abstract Hemangiosarcoma (HSA) of bone and telangiectatic osteosarcoma (tOSA) can appear similar histologically, but differ in histogenesis (malignant endothelial cells versus osteoblasts), and may warrant different treatments. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) for endothelial cell marker factor VIII‐related antigen/von Willebrand factor (FVIII‐RAg/vWF) is a well‐documented ancillary test to confirm HSA diagnoses in soft tissues, but its use in osseous HSA is rarely described. Archived samples of 54 primary appendicular bone tumours previously diagnosed as HSA or tOSA were evaluated using combination routine histopathology ...
