Abstract Background: The clock drawing test (CDT) is frequently used to detect changes in cognition. Multiple scales of varying length have been published to assess performance. The aim of this study is to compare the CDT performance measured by three scales among a sample of nondemented patients on renal dialysis and identify the variables that affect performance. Methodology. This is a cross-sectional study performed at the dialysis unit at King Saud University Medical City. Eighty-nine dialysis patients performed the CDT. The CDT was scored by the methods of Rouleau et al. (RCS 10-point), Babins et al. (BCS 18-...

CONCLUSIONS: NA to HD regimens is common amongst patients in Cameroon. Younger age and being unmarried were the predictors of NA to fluid restriction. PMID: 33028122 [PubMed - in process]

We report a continuous cycling peritoneal dialysis (CCPD) patient who presented initially disseminated listeriosis with peritonitis. He was successfully treated with intraperitoneal and intravenous ampicillin but died unfortunately from a cardiorespiratory arrest due to food inhalation. It is the 20th case of such peritonitis mentioned among PD patients and the first reported in Belgium. This case illustrates the importance of a systematic approach to get quick diagnosis and effective antibiotic readjustment. Empiric therapy is not effective on Listeria which is naturally resistant to cephalosporins and poorly sensitive to...

Background: It remains controversial to claim blood pressure (BP) as a leading risk factor for high risk of death in peritoneal dialysis patients, and less is known about the relationship between BP and mortality in Chinese peritoneal dialysis patients. Methods: From Zhejiang Renal Data System in China, we collected data on patients treated and followed up at 98 peritoneal dialysis centres from 2008 to 2016. The associations of BP parameters [SBP, DBP, mean arterial pressure (MAP) and pulse pressure (PP)] with all-cause and cardiovascular mortality were examined. We fitted Cox models for mortality with penalized splin...

Conclusions: In patients with CKD stages 1 –5, the combination of higher cFGF-23 and lower sKlotho levels along with mGFR and serum phosphate was associated with adverse clinical outcomes. The utility of combinations of traditional and novel biomarkers to predict outcomes warrants further study.Kidney Blood Press Res

Abstract Nonadherence to therapy (dietary/fluid restrictions, medications, and dialysis treatment), is common in patients with end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) undergoing dialysis. It is associated with a higher risk of mortality and adverse outcomes. Clinical trials evaluating adherence improvement interventions have largely addressed patient-related factors by employing educational/cognitive, counselling/behavioral, psychological strategies, or combinations thereof. A major barrier to progress in addressing ESKD-related adherence is the difficulty in comparing these trials due to the highly diverse nature of inte...

Conclusion: Our results suggest that children who develop ARF during engraftment have better ICU survival rates than do those with other etiologies of ARF post-HSCT. Furthermore, fluid overload contributes to mortality in these children; therefore, strategies to prevent and address fluid overload should be considered.

Authors: Baek SD, Jeung S, Go J, Kang JY Abstract OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate whether blood temperature monitoring-guided vascular access intervention could improve dialysis adequacy. METHODS: We retrospectively evaluated all patients who received outpatient-based prevalent hemodialysis patients (n = 84) in our artificial kidney room between January 2019 and October 2019. Through blood temperature monitoring, access blood flow was calculated every month and Kt/V was calculated every 3 months. The reference point was set at the time of vascular intervention in the pa...
