ConclusionThis study suggests that multidisciplinary management is a potentially effective treatment strategy for isolated LNM. Since time to LNM, the T-stage, and histological type are prognostic factors, an active follow-up program for colorectal cancer is required.

Authors: Smuder AJ, Roberts BM, Wiggs MP, Kwon OS, Yoo JK, Christou DD, Fuller DD, Szeto HH, Judge AR Abstract Cancer cachexia is a syndrome characterized by profound cardiac and diaphragm muscle wasting, which increase the risk of morbidity in cancer patients due to failure of the cardiorespiratory system. In this regard, muscle relies greatly on mitochondria to meet energy requirements for contraction and mitochondrial dysfunction can result in muscle weakness and fatigue. In addition, mitochondria are a major source of reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, which can stimulate increased rates of muscle protei...

Authors: Huang X, Li Y, He X, Chen Y, Wei W, Yang X, Ma K Abstract Previous studies have shown that (GM3), a ganglioside, suppresses hepatoma cell motility and migration by inhibiting phosphorylation of EGFR and the activity of the PI3K/AKT signaling pathway. Therefore, the aim of the present study was to investigate whether the combined treatment of CD82 with gangliosides can exert a synergistic inhibitory effect on cell motility and migration. Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) signaling was studied for its role in the mechanism through which CD82 and gangliosides synergistically inhibit the motility and mig...

Conclusions: EDB-FN is a promising molecular marker for assessing drug resistance. MRMI of EDB-FN with MT218 at a significantly reduced dose can facilitate effective non-invasive assessment and treatment response monitoring of drug-resistant CRC, highlighting its translational potential for active surveillance and management of CRC and other malignancies.

ConclusionsPatients who were EMVI-negative fared better than those who were EMVI-positive. In patients who were EMVI-positive, adjuvant chemotherapy improved overall survival.

CONCLUSION: Collectively, ASCex could act as a potent chemotherapeutic drug against colon cancer, likely through the influence of its rich active metabolites which interfere with various biological pathways including inhibition of protein synthesis during cellular growth and marked induction of antioxidative capacity in the colonic mucosa. This role has been extensively discussed herein. PMID: 32986376 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

We present a case of synchronous quadruple CRC with 2 lesions previously obscured by ischemic colitis. A 73-year-old woman was admitted to our emergency department. An abdominal computed tomography revealed ischemic colitis and irregular wall thickening of the sigmoid colon and sigmoid-descending junction, suspicious of 2 colon cancers. A colonoscopy examination revealed a fungating mass 20 cm from the anal verge, as well as ischemic colitis spanning the mucosa from the sigmoid colon to the transverse colon. The patient underwent laparoscopic Hartmann procedure. Pathologic examination confirmed both lesions as adenocarcino...

AbstractPurposeIGF-1Ec is an isoform of Insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) and has recently been identified to be overexpressed in cancers including prostate and neuroendocrine tumours. The aim of this paper is to investigate the expression of IGF-1Ec in colorectal cancer and polyps compared to normal colon tissues and its association with recurrent disease using semi-quantitative immunohistochemistry.MethodsImmunohistochemistry for IGF-1Ec expression was performed for colorectal cancer, colorectal polyps and normal colonic tissues. The quantification of IGF-1Ec expression was performed with the use of Image J software a...
