This study investigates whether current guidelines adequately identify distant metastasis in a positive sentinel lymph node biopsy population that had radiological staging. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Patients diagnosed with primary breast cancer between 1 January 2013 and 1 October 2017 with a positive sentinel lymph node biopsy and subsequent radiological staging from a single unit were included. A systematic search identified relevant guideline criteria, against which patients were audited. RESULTS: A total of 330 patients with positive sentinel lymph node biopsy were identified; 227 (69%) had radiological staging ...

Conclusion: Our results demonstrate persistent use of advanced imaging tests for routine metastatic screening among patients with stage 0–II breast cancer despite the release of the ASCO Choosing Wisely recommendations and the update of our provincial breast cancer staging guideline. Investigation of strategies for guideline translation to improve upon value-based care of patients with early breast cancer is warranted. PMID: 32109016 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

ConclusionNaF PET has relatively low sensitivity in detecting breast cancer. However, abnormal breast uptake on NaF PET requires further evaluation. F-18 fluoride uptake in the primary breast tumor does not seem to be correlated with axillary lymphadenopathy (metastasis potential), gross tumor calcification or metabolic activity of the tumor.

ConclusionsWhole lumpectomy specimen micro-CT scanning is a promising technique for intraoperative margin assessment in BCS. Intraoperative quick feedback on the margin status could potentially lead to a reduction in the number of reoperations.

1053Objectives: We compared 99mTc-sestamibi breast specific gamma imaging (BSGI) and fluorine-18 fluorodeoxyglucose positron emission tomography/computed tomography (18F-FDG PET/CT) to determine their clinical value in differentiating malignant breast lesions and discriminating between two malignant subtypes, invasive ductal carcinoma (IDC) and ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS).Methods: A total of 224 patients who underwent preoperative DTP BSGI and 18F-FDG PET/CT between November 2010 and April 2014 were studied. All primary lesions were histopathologically confirmed as IDC or DCIS. BSGI and PET/CT results were compared wit...

Conclusion: There was no significant difference in breast cancer detectability in this population. The C scanner demonstrated ∼1.6-fold larger maximum SUV than WB PET/CT.

Conclusion】To the best of our knowledge, no reports of CESM in which MMG is performed immediately after contrast-enhanced CT have been published to date, and thus this is the world's first attempt of such method performed at our hospital. CESM ensures diagnosability without being invasive or placing financial burden on the patient. It was suggested that CESM can be clinically useful particularly for those who cannot undergo contrast-enhanced MRI due to hardware problems, financial difficulties, or metal embedded within the body.Citation Format: Ohtani S, Yoshimura Y, Kin T, Fujihara M, Kajiwara Y, Ito M, Okada N, Urashim...

CONCLUSION: In DCIS and DCIS-Mi cases, significant correlations were found between increased FDG uptake and several histological and biological factors for poor prognosis (tumor size, Van Nuys Prognostic Index, and HER2). PMID: 27312540 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]
