Use of Noninvasive Scores for Advanced Liver Fibrosis Can Guide the Need for Hepatic Biopsy During Bariatric Procedures
We performed a retrospective review of 2465 patients undergoing routine liver biopsy during a bariatric operation and found a prevalence of advanced fibrosis (stage 3-4) in 3%. Non-invasive risk calculators can potentially screen out advanced fibrosis in one-third of the population.
