Real-world evaluation of adverse pregnancy outcomes in women with gestational diabetes mellitus in the German health care system

Hyperglycaemia with onset during pregnancy, also known as gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), is a condition linked to short and long-term health burden for mother and child [1 –4]. To lower the morbidity burden of the disease in Germany, a guideline was developed first in 2011 and updated in 2018 [5,6]. In addition to treatment guidelines, a new screening algorithm was implemented into the German health care system in accordance with the International Association of the Diabetes and Pregnancy Study Groups (IADPSG) criteria.
