Sudden unexpected death in Parkinson ’s disease: Who would think of the thyroid gland?

We enjoyed reading the recent paper by Chen and colleagues entitled, “Risk of Parkinson's disease (PD) in patients with hypothyroidism: A nationwide population-based cohort study” [1]. The authors are to be congratulated for this informative prospective study demonstrating that patients with hypothyroidism have an increased risk of developing PD [1]. Although thi s study is unique in its approach, we would like to add some thoughts that may open the debate about the possible cardiovascular repercussions mediated by hypothyroidism in patients with PD and even trigger sudden fatal events in these individuals.
