Is Clostridium Difficile Colitis an Indication for Early Surgical Intervention in Patients with Diverticulitis?

Management of uncomplicated and selected cases of complicated diverticulitis has shifted away from surgery in favor of surveillance, often with repeated antibiotic treatment. Data are lacking regarding patients with simultaneous Clostridium difficile colitis (Cdif), which can occur following antibiotic therapy. We aimed to characterize the clinical course and surgical options for this population.
