Prescription Gap in Hernia Repair: An Opportunity to Impact the Opioid Crisis
The opioid epidemic has increased overdose deaths 3-fold from 1999 to 2014, with particular impact felt in Ohio. The majority of opioid addictions start with a prescription written by a healthcare provider. We sought to identify differences between opioids prescribed and patient-reported opioid use within our hernia practice to help determine the appropriate amount of opioids to prescribe after hernia operation.
