Conclusions: Volume reduction surgery is a treatment method that positively affects the natural course of emphysema in addition to quitting smoking and oxygen therapy. Patients with predominantly emphysema in the upper lobes, low exercise capacity, and appropriate FEV1 values benefited most from this treatment. PMID: 33014087 [PubMed]

ConclusionBy applying [11C]DASB and PET/CT, semiquantitative measures of SERT availability are demonstrated in the lung vasculature of patients with COPD and/or PH. COPD patients who developed PH show increased pulmonary [11C]DASB uptake compared to COPD patients without PH indicating an implication of pulmonary SERT in the development of PH in COPD patients.

Authors: D'Anna SE, Maniscalco M, Cappello F, Carone M, Motta A, Balbi B, Ricciardolo FM, Caramori G, Di Stefano A Abstract In COPD patients, bacterial and viral infections play a relevant role in worsening lung function and, therefore, favor disease progression. The inflammatory response to lung infections may become a specific indication of the bacterial and viral infections. We here review data on the bacterial-viral infections and related airways and lung parenchyma inflammation in stable and exacerbated COPD, focusing our attention on the prevalent molecular pathways in these different clinical conditions. The...

CONCLUSIONS: Disadvantages by individual and neighborhood-level SES each partly explain disparities in respiratory outcomes between black individuals and whites. Strategies to narrow the gap in SES disadvantages may help to reduce race-related health disparities in COPD; however, further work is needed to identify additional risk factors contributing to persistent disparities. ECG changes in coronary artery disease (CAD) can be in any of the waves or segments. Diagnosis of acute myocardial infarction in the emergency room still relies mostly on the ECG, though other investigations are there to supplement. P wave abnormalities P wave being an atrial event, is not usually involved directly by CAD. But indirectly, there can be evidence of atrial enlargement if there is left ventricular dysfunction. Atrial arrhythmias are observed in atrial infarction. Abnormalities of PR segment PR segment contains the atrial repolarization wave (Ta) though it is not usually evident. PR segment depression can occu...

Abstract BACKGROUND: Postoperative severe respiratory adverse events (SRAEs) are the major cause of perioperative morbidity in patients after thoracic surgery. In particular, SRAEs often occur in lung cancer patients concomitant with chronic inflammatory lung diseases (CILDs) such as interstitial lung disease, emphysema, infectious disease, and asthma. We aimed to clarify whether the measurement of the maximum of standardized uptake value in the noncancerous lung area (NCA-SUVmax) and CILDs on high-resolution computed tomography were useful for predicting the risk of SRAEs. METHODS: A total of 984 patients wi...
