Remote retrieval of automated external defibrillator data —Isn’t it about time?

It was 4:40 PM when the pager screeched its intrusive tone. I knew this meant only one thing —I’d be pushing off dinner plans yet again for the infamous “late admission.” The emergency department (ED) sign out was typical: 34M, syncope. OK, not so bad. I consulted my weathered pocket guide to get a head start on the case. Discharging this young man from the ED seemed like a real pos sibility! Little did I know, I would soon become part of a story my attending deemed “the case of my career.”
