A Trimodal Ultrasound, Photoacoustic and Magnetic Resonance Imaging Approach for Longitudinal Post-operative Monitoring of Stem Cells in the Spinal Cord

Longitudinal monitoring of stem cells in the spinal cord could unveil critical information needed to understand regenerative processes, thereby expediting therapy development and translation. We introduce a post-operative trimodal imaging approach to monitor stem cells in the spinal cord over time. A key aspect of the approach is to label the stem cells with Prussian blue nanocubes (PBNCs), which simultaneously possess optical and magnetic properties for ultrasound-guided photoacoustic (US/PA) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) contrast.
