Cost-effectiveness Analysis of a Fecal Microbiota Transplant Center for Treating Recurrent C.difficile Infection

Clostridiodes difficile (C.difficile) is a spore-forming, toxin-producing, gram-positive bacillus bacteria found in approximately 15% of healthy adults1, although colonization does not necessarily translate to infection. The incidence of C.difficile infection (CDI) in the USA doubled from 2000 to 20102. In 2017 the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported an incidence rate of 130.3 cases of CDI per 100,000 persons, across all ages3. There are prior studies assessing the epidemiology of CDI in Canada 4-8, though only one is truly population-based, analyzing the trend of CDI over a ten-year period in a Canadian province 8.
