Scientists trace severe COVID-19 to faulty genes and an autoimmune condition

(Rockefeller University) An international team led by Jean-Laurent Casanova has led to a breakthrough in understanding why only some people develop severe COVID-19: due to faulty genes or misguided antibodies, they lack type I interferons, proteins vital in protecting against viruses.
