Scientists identify dozens of genes allowing cancer cells to evade the immune system

(University of Toronto) Cancer immunotherapy can be extremely successful but so far has only worked in a fraction of patients and tumour types. To make it more widely available, more knowledge is needed about the genes involved in the interaction between cancer and immune cells. In the most comprehensive study to date, Toronto scientists have mapped 182 genes that make cancer cells more susceptible or resistant to T cell killing that could be harnessed to boost immunotherapy success.
