A Case of Mycobacterium bovis Bacillus Calmette-Gu érin (BCG) strain Meningitis and Ventriculitis Following BCG Vaccination

Bacillus Calmette-Gu érin (BCG) vaccination, which has a protective effect against meningeal and miliary tuberculosis, has been widely used worldwide (Rodrigues et al., 1993; von Reyn, 2017). In Japan, the universal BCG vaccination policy has been applied since 1951 (Aoki, 1993). Adverse events such as subcutaneous abs cess and axillary lymphadenitis have been commonly reported (Aishwarya et al., 2015; Deeks et al., 2005). However, serious systemic adverse events including osteomyelitis or disseminated BCG, are exceedingly unusual and occur mostly in patients with immunodeficiency (Deeks et al., 2005; Suleiman et al., 2017).
