Immunofluorescence as a diagnostic tool for oral lichen planus

A 40-year-old female patient without systemic diseases and without the use of medication presented complaints of painful and bleeding wounds on the mouth. On physical examination, multiple bleeding ulcers on the tongue, lip, and jugal mucosa were observed, some with fibrinopurulent pseudomembrane. Laboratory tests excluded autoimmune diseases, venereal diseases, and anemias. Excisional biopsy was performed to exclude the diagnosis of bullous lesions. Anatomohistopathologic examination demonstrated areas of ulcerated connective tissue with chronic inflammatory infiltrate.
