Cytopathological diagnosis in the intensive care unit: candidiasis and herpes simplex virus

Patients admitted to intensive care units are in a serious condition, immunocompromised and more susceptible to opportunistic and secondary infections. Oral hygiene is harmful and the oral microbiota is modified, facilitating the development of infections. Oral examination revealed a white lesion with plaque appearance on the back and lateral border of the tongue and on the lip and on the labial mucosa.
