Proton Accelerated Partial Breast Irradiation: Clinical Outcomes at a Planned Interim Analysis of a Prospective Phase II Trial

Summary: Proton accelerated partial breast irradiation (APBI) is a maturing treatment option for patients with early stage breast cancer. At this planned interim analysis of a prospective single-arm trial, proton APBI demonstrates exceptional heart and lung sparing effects, high local control, favorable cosmetic outcomes, high patient satisfaction, minimal treatment time and time off work, and low patient out-of-pocket cost. Further investigation into treatment planning and patient selection parameters are required to improve outcomes.
