Impact of adjuvant chemotherapy or tamoxifen-alone on the ovarian reserve of young women with breast cancer

AbstractPurposeTo determine the longitudinal impact of adjuvant chemotherapy and tamoxifen-only treatments on the reproductive potential of women with breast cancer by using a sensitive ovarian reserve marker anti-Mullerian hormone (AMH) as a surrogate.MethodsOne-hundred-and-forty-two women with a primary diagnosis of breast cancer were prospectively followed with serum AMH assessments before the initiation, and 12, 18 and 24  months after the completion of adjuvant chemotherapy or the start of tamoxifen-only treatment. The chemotherapy regimens were classified into Anthracycline-Cyclophosphamide-based (AC-based) and Cyclophosphamide-Methotrexate + 5-Fluorouracil (CMF). Longitudinal data were analyzed by mixed effec ts model for treatment effects over time, adjusting for baseline age and BMI.ResultsBoth chemotherapy regimens resulted in significant decline in ovarian reserve compared to the tamoxifen-only treatment (p

Authors: Dinas KD Abstract Malignancy may unfortunately present quite early in a woman's life. In the case of breast cancer, rescue of the breast cancer patient's life is the top priority, but after completion of the effective treatment , the question about the ability to accomplish a pregnancy arises. The treatment strategies in breast cancer patients include surgical interventions, chemotherapy , radiotherapy, hormonal therapy and other special types of mainly targeted biologic therapies. Under normal circumstances, surgery for breast cancer does not involve any intervention in the ovaries or the uterus. Thus, ev...

(Institute of Cancer Research) A drug already licensed for the treatment of breast and ovarian cancers is more effective than targeted hormone therapy at keeping cancer in check in some men with advanced prostate cancer, a major clinical trial reports.Olaparib, a pill lacking the side effects of chemotherapy, can target an Achilles heel in prostate cancers with a weakness in their ability to repair damaged DNA.

DISCUSSION: For a diagnosis of primary breast cancer of the vulva, a thorough metastatic workup should be performed, with attention directed toward detecting a breast primary disease by results of the history, physical examination, and radiologic examination of the breasts mainly to help confirm that the vulvar lesion is the primary site as opposed to metastasis from a breast primary cancer and also for staging. Management of this rare entity is challenging because of a lack of specific guidelines, and treatment, therefore, is similar to that of breast cancer.Treatment should consist of an individualized combination of sur...

CONCLUSIONS: Hormone replacement therapy may slightly improve overall survival in women who have undergone surgical treatment for EOC, but the certainty of the evidence is low. HRT may make little or no difference to quality of life, incidence of breast cancer, TIA, CVA and MI as the certainty of the evidence has been assessed as very low. There may be little or no effect of HRT use on progression-free survival. The evidence in this review is limited by imprecision and incompleteness of reported relevant outcomes and therefore the results should be interpreted with caution. Future well-designed RCTs are required as this is...

ConclusionsIn this cohort of young women, population-based cancer registry data on chemotherapy receipt was reasonably accurate and complete in comparison with insurance claims. Radiation and hormone therapy appeared to be less complete.

Waseem Abbas, Ranga Raju RaoIndian Journal of Cancer 2019 56(4):293-296Adjuvant ovarian suppression, on addition to chemotherapy, reduces the risk of breast cancer in pre-menopausal women after surgery and adjuvant hormonal therapy. Suppression of Ovarian Function Trial (SOFT) and Tamoxifen and Exemestane Trial (TEXT) showed greater benefit with exemestane in high risk females in comparison to Tamoxifen. Ovarian Function Suppression (OFS) and exemestane became the standard of care, with 30% patients experiencing grade 3 and more side effects. Much higher benefit was seen in high risk group. But there are concerns about inc...

How can you have a moonshot trying to cure cancer and not mention people dying of cancer?I believed the narrative that is pushed on women, that if you check your breasts and if you catch it early, you’re fine.ide class="right-rail__container right-rail__container--ad"> Lianne Kraemer had been living with metastatic breast cancer for more than a year when I met her in December 2017 at the Henry B. Conclusion: Clinical studies in breast cancer patients from Asia have primarily investigated the effect of leuprorelin on the protection of ovarian function in patients who receive chemotherapy, assessed the ability of leuprorelin to suppress serum estradiol to menopausal levels, or to determine the efficacy and safety of leuprorelin in daily medical practice. Conclusion: These findings indicate that TBI differentially affects the levels of sex-steroid hormones in men and women patients. Plasma levels of testosterone could be a good candidate blood marker to predict recovery from unconsciousness after sTBI for male patients. Introduction Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a major cause of death and disability worldwide and is increasing in incidence (1). Patients with acute severe TBI (sTBI) often develop severe disorders of consciousness, i.e., coma, minimally conscious state or vegetative state. Although many patients may regain consciousness during the 1-month post-TBI p...
