Two arteries better than one? The jury is still out

The meta-analysis by Saraiva et al. [1] adds more weight to the body of circumstantial evidence in the literature that was built up over the last two decades. The addition of a second arterial conduit is associated with better long-term survival than single arterial grafting [2,3] —longer patency of arterial grafts as compared to veins likely drives these outcomes. This becomes evident in the long-term follow-up. The angiographic patency of the left internal mammary artery is>95% at 15  years, and that of the right internal mammary artery>90% at ten years [4].
