My Wife ’s Palliative Care Helped Both of Us
Fourteen months after she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, Sharon, my beloved wife and partner, died at home in my arms. I knew the end was near. Maybe Sharon did as well; I was no longer certain of her level of awareness. I lay with her all night, alternately dosing and awake, deeply sad, but wanting her misery to end. I would be alone, but she would no longer suffer. My arms were around her and I talked to her hoping that she could hear me. She died before the sun rose on the morning of January 10, 2018.
