Radio-contrast medium exposure and Dialysis risk in patients with chronic kidney disease and congestive heart failure: A case-only study

Background: Dialysis for end stage renal disease is considered a major public health challenge. Pre-existing chronic kidney disease (CKD) and congestive heart failure (CHF) may be independent risk factors for contrast-induced acute kidney injury. The aim of this study is to investigate dialysis risk in patients with CKD and CHF after radio-contrast medium exposure or coronary catheterization. Methods: This case-crossover design used the Health Insurance Database to identify incident dialysis patients with CKD and CHF.
