Is There a Racial Disparity in the Prognosis of Hypopharyngeal Carcinoma? 25-Year Experience from a Tertiary Care Medical Center in The United States

Racial disparities exist in many cancers between African American and Caucasian patients in terms of incidence, stage of presentation and prognosis. Hypopharyngeal carcinoma is a rare malignancy which contributes to approximately 3 to 5% of head and neck carcinomas. The prevalence of racial disparities has not been evaluated well among patients with hypopharyngeal carcinoma due to the rare nature of the disease.
