ERK Phosphorylation as a Marker of RAS Activity and its Prognostic Value in Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) is the leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide. Recent improvements have been achieved by refined staging and surgical techniques in early stage disease, and the introduction of targeted therapies and immune checkpoint inhibitors in patients with metastatic NSCLC. Nevertheless, long-term survival is only achieved in a minority of patients with advanced or recurrent disease. Activation of intracellular signaling pathways are key determinants in tumor proliferation, treatment response, and resistance.
