Molecules, Vol. 25, Pages 4054: Antimicrobial Activity of Gemini Surfactants with Azapolymethylene Spacer Molecules doi: 10.3390/molecules25184054 Authors: Iwona Kowalczyk Marta Pakiet Adrianna Szulc Anna Koziróg A series of 21 azapolymethylene gemini surfactants were obtained. The synthesis of the title surfactants in one- or two-step reaction proceeds with good yields. The structure and the purity of the synthesized compounds were determined by 1H and 13C NMR, ESI-MS spectra, and elemental analysis. Moreover, 2D COSY, HMBC, and HSQC spectra were performed. The minimal inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of the synthesized compounds were determined against fungi: Candida albicans, Aspergillus niger, Penicillium chrysogenum and bacteria: Escherichia coli,Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus subtilis. Also, the critical micelle concentrations (CMC) were determined. The relationship between antimicrobial and surface activity and surfactant structure has been determined.

In this study, holomycin was produced for the first time in the culture broth of a non-Streptomyces actinobacteria. This antibiotic was induced by adding 5 mM of L-cystine as precursor to the semi-synthetic fermentation broth of Sa. algeriensis NRRL B-24137 and then fully identified after HPLC purification. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) of holomycin were determined against several pathogenic microorganisms, including Escherichia coli ATCC 10536 Klebsiella pneumoniae CIP 82.91, Listeria monocytogenes CIP 82110, Staphylococcus aureus CIP 7625, Aspergillus carbonarius M333, Fusarium culmorum FC1, Candida al...

Abstract Schinus polygamus (Anacardiaceae) is a shrub cultivated in Egypt for ornamental purpose. The major components of bark oil were dl-limonene (29.74%), followed by myrtenal (14.02%) and caryophyllene oxide (11.34%), while E-caryophyllene (55.86%), dl-limonene (27.71%) and β-pinene (3.54%) were predominant in the leaf oil. These isolated oils were screened for their antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 33591, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 29213, Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 10145, Candida albicans MTCC183 and Aspergillus niger NRRL 595, and two clinical isola...

Abstract Being derived from primary amine and aromatic aldehyde, Schiff base and their complexes have an imperative role in the improvement of inorganic chemistry which are broadly studied as coordination compounds and are gradually becoming more important in biochemical and analytical applications. They have also been used for antibacterial, antifungal, anticancer, antitubercular activities. Novel synthesised Schiff's base 2-methoxy-4-((3-methylpyridin-2-ylimino)methyl)phenol (SB) and its metal complexes (Zn[II], Cu[II], Co[II] and Ni[II]) were characterised by UV, IR and NMR spectroscopy. Formation of the Schiff...

This study was aimed at design, synthesis of nano valve and capping systems onto caged functionalized mesoporous silica nanoparticles (SBA15) with nanoflowers polylactic acid (PLA-NF). Levofloxacin (LVX) as a specific model drug was encapsulated onto series; SBA15, SBA15@NH2, and SBA15@NH2/PLA. The examined nanocarriers released in a controlled fashion by external stimuli. The delivery vehicle based on PLA-NF coated SBA15@NH2, potent conjugated with LVX with experienced a high extent of trapping content with fast releasing by pH regulating mechanism. In vial LVX released profile and in vitro antifungal forceful of the sele...

In this study, post-fermentation leachate from a biogas plant which exploits stillage and maize silage was utilized as a culture medium for Chlorella vulgaris. The content of polyphenols in hydrophilic extracts of the Chlorella vulgaris biomass was determined, and the extracts were evaluated for their antioxidant activity (DPPH assay), antibacterial activity (against Escherichia coli, Lactobacillus plantarum, Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis) and antifungal activity (against Aspergillus niger, Candida albicans, Saccharomyces cerevisiae). The use of the post-fermentation leachate was not found to affect the...

anzi A series of 34 new pyrimido[2,1-c][1,2,4]triazine-3,4-diones were synthesized and fully characterized using IR, NMR, MS, and microanalytical analysis. In vitro investigation of 12 compounds of this series revealed promising antimicrobial activity of the conjugates 15a and 15f–j that were tagged with electron-withdrawing groups, with sensitivities ranging from 77% to as high as 100% of the positive control. The investigation of antimicrobial activity included Bacillus subtilis ATCC 6633, Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 6535, Pseudomonas aeruginosa ATCC 27853, and Escherichia coli ATCC 8739 (EC), and fungal st...

Abstract Two series of carbazole analogs of 8-methoxy- N -substituted-9 H -carbazole-3-carboxamides (series-1) and carbazolyl substituted rhodanines (series-2) were synthesized through facile synthetic routes. All the final compounds from these two series were evaluated for their preliminary in vitro antifungal and antibacterial activity against four fungal ( Candida albicans , Cryptococcus neoformans , Cryptococcus tropicalis and Aspergillus niger ) and four bacterial ( Staphylococcus aureus , Bacillus subtilis , Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa ) strains, respectively. Among the tested compounds, 6d ,...

oltronieri : The synthesis of metal nanoparticles using plant extracts is a very promising method in green synthesis. The medicinal value of Moringa oleifera leaves and the antimicrobial activity of metallic copper were combined in the present study to synthesize copper nanoparticles having a desirable added-value inorganic material. The use of a hydroalcoholic extract of M. oleifera leaves for the green synthesis of copper nanoparticles is an attractive method as it leads to the production of harmless chemicals and reduces waste. The total phenolic content in the M. oleifera leaves extract was 23.0 ± 0.3 mg...
