Eliminating Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infections in a Pediatric Cardiac ICU
Conclusions: Utilization of quality improvement methodology allowed us to identify components of care that contributed to catheter-associated urinary tract infections. After addressing these issues, we noted a substantial reduction and then elimination of catheter-associated urinary tract infections in our pediatric cardiac ICU. Widely disseminating these interventions across multiple pediatric hospitals to determine the ability to achieve similar results are important next steps.
Conclusion: In conclusion, patients with a ureteral catheter associated with APN should be given close attention with regards to the above risk factors. Early removal of the catheter is the best policy for the prevention of APN. PMID: 32975161 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Conclusion Bacteria traditionally considered to be more pathogenic outside of pregnancy do not progress to pyelonephritis at higher rates than E. coli in pregnancy, and are associated with similar pyelonephritis-related morbidity. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a health risk as it can lead to life-threatening infections. There has been a rise in resistant urinary tract infections (UTIs) which is the most common infection in pregnancy. This can be challenging in pregnancy due to the additional need to safeguard foetal development. The study's aim was to explore views about AMR in women who experienced UTIs in pregnancy.
Conclusions: Gram-negative bacteria were found to be dominant pathogens in healthcare-associated infections. The most frequently cultured pathogens were multidrug-resistant A. baumannii, K. pneumoniae ESBL(+), and P. aeruginosa. The study showed an increase in the incidence of “alert pathogens” and MDR bacilli, as well as the tendency of a growing resistance to antibiotics during the observed period. Microbiological analysis of HAIs and the consumption of antibiotics is the necessary element of the proper antibiotic policy in hospitals.
