Comorbid depression associated with non-routine discharge following craniotomy for low-grade gliomas and benign tumors – a nationwide readmission database analysis

ConclusionDepression is prevalent in patients with LGG and BBT and is associated with increased risk of non-routine discharge following surgical intervention. The increased likelihood of non-routine disposition is greater for males than that for females. Awareness of the risk factors for depression may aid in early screening and intervention and improve overall patient outcomes.

In conclusion, our results confirm pr evious data that depression affects more than ¼ of patients with primary brain tumors, it is largely independent of tumor characteristics and is associated with shorter survival in patients with recurrent malignant gliomas. On PET imaging, higher tryptophan metabolism in the frontal cortex and thal amus was found in those with brain tumor-associated depression and supports the role of dysregulated tryptophan/kynurenine metabolism in this condition.

Conclusions: Overall, integrated 11C-MET PET/MR had better diagnostic performance compared with contrast-enhanced MR. This study analyzes the tumor homing and therapeutic abilities of clinical grade human mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in an orthotopic glioblastoma mouse model. Our time course analysis demonstrated that MSCs display a rapid targeted migration to intracerebral U87 glioma xenografts growing in the contralateral hemisphere within the first 48h hours after application as assessed by histology and 7T magnetic resonance imaging.
