Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis

To the Editor The Review by Dr Sheka and colleagues omitted 2 important facts: (1) nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is an independent cardiovascular risk factor, increasing the risk of a cardiovascular event by nearly 2-fold and (2) an individual with metabolic syndrome and NAFLD has a 2- to 5-fold increased risk of progressing to diabetes compared with someone without NAFLD.
