Orofacial pain: care pathways, consequences and costs

AbstractOrofacial pain is known to be a complex biopsychosocial phenomenon. It can be both acute and or persistent (previously known as ‘chronic’, lasting ≥3 months). In its acute form it most commonly presents as odontogenic pain arising from the dental pulp or supporting structures of the teeth. Its persistent form can be related to several different structures. This special issue of Oral Surgery covers all of the main condi tions presenting with orofacial pain as a symptom or sign and also includes common co‐morbidities such as bruxism and sleep disorders.
