Clinical trials are only as good as the patient- important outcome measures assessed

Core Outcome Sets are agreed-on standardised sets of patient –important outcomes that should be measured in all trials of a given condition. This allows patients, clinicians and policy makers to ‘compare like with like’ [apples with apples]. Their development has become a major clinical epidemiology activity of many groups around the world. The methods are still in evolution as demonstrated in the seven paper Controversy and Debate Series in this issue in response to challenges by Chevance et al.
