CONCLUSIONS: In Japanese men, lower non-HDL-C levels were associated with a decreased risk of large-artery occlusive infarction and an increased risk of ICH, particularly lobar ICH. PMID: 31534078 [PubMed - as supplied by publisher]

Publication date: Available online 12 September 2019Source: Genes &DiseasesAuthor(s): Kanika Arora, Sandesh Guleria, Ankur Kumar Jindal, Amit Rawat, Surjit SinghAbstractKawasaki disease (KD) is a medium vessel vasculitis with predilection to cause coronary artery abnormalities. KD is now the most common cause of acquired heart disease in developed countries. Thrombocytosis is consistently found in patients with KD, usually in 2nd to 3rd week of illness. Thrombocytopenia has occasionally been reported in the acute phase of KD. An increase or decrease in platelet number in patients with KD was initially considered to be ...

We report the case of a 53-year-old female diagnosed of SLE presenting with an ACS caused by SCAD. She was treated medically and her clinical course was favorable. A literature search identified seven additional cases of SCAD associated with SLE. The main clinical features found in these reports are revised. ACS caused by SCAD in SLE patients is a condition likely under-reported in literature. SCAD should be suspected in patients with SLE and ACS, especially in younger women without evident cardiovascular risk factors. An early accurate diagnosis of SCAD is key to provide specific treatment, which differs from that of usua...

Authors: Kumar SS, Sabu A Abstract Cardiovascular diseases are a group of disorders consisting importantly of coronary heart disease, peripheral arterial disease, cerebrovascular disease, rheumatic heart disease, congenital heart disease, deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism. Severe cardiovascular disease conditions lead to acute myocardial infarction and stroke. One of the reasons for this is formation of blood clots inside the vessel. Anticoagulants and antiplatelet drugs are used for managing cardiovascular diseases for a long time. However, they were unable to dissolve an existing thrombus. Fibrinolytic ...

Conclusion: CV risk calculation should be considered by clinicians in order to exclude patients with high CV risk, in whom MHT is contraindicated. Assessing risks and benefits in a patient-centered approach according to individual's features, health status, and personal preferences is important in order to realize a safe and effective treatment. zar AA, Merino-Rajme JA Abstract Objective: The aim of this study was to present a valve-in-valve (ViV) case and a step-by-step guideline on how to perform this procedure. Methods: A 51-year-old female with a history of rheumatic heart disease and tricuspid valve replacement presented functional class deterioration, a transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE) revealed prosthetic dysfunction due to thrombosis; therefore, a valvular replacement with a 27 mm bioprosthesis (Carpentier-Edwards Perimount) was performed without complication. 3 years after the procedure, the patients presented functional class deteriorati...

High molecular weight kininogen (HK) and prekallikrein (PK) are proteins in the kallikrein/kinin system of the coagulation cascade. They play an important role in the contact activation system of the intrinsic coagulation pathway, renin-angiotensin activation, and inflammation. Hence these proteins have been posited to affect the occurrence of cardiovascular events and thus to be potential therapeutic targets. Previous case-control studies have provided inconsistent evidence for an association of HK and PK with cardiovascular disease.

In this study, we used large-scale electronic health records data from multiple linked UK databases to address these evidence gaps.MethodsFor this population-based cohort study, we used linked primary care, hospital, and cancer registry data from the UK Clinical Practice Research Datalink to identify cohorts of survivors of the 20 most common cancers who were 18 years or older and alive 12 months after diagnosis and controls without history of cancer, matched for age, sex, and general practice. We compared risks for a range of cardiovascular disease outcomes using crude and adjusted Cox models. We fitted interactions to in...
