Managing Menopausal Vasomotor Symptoms in Older Women
Menopause, a nearly universal transition for women who reach midlife, is heralded by vasomotor symptoms (VMS) or hot flashes, mood disorders including depression and anxiety, sleep disruption, and genitourinary symptoms. In older women, however, mood and sleep disturbances can present independently as a function of aging, rather than menopause. Genitourinary syndrome of menopause, clinically under recognized and undertreated in aging women, is addressed in a separate chapter of this special issue.
